French twists have a bad rap since the 90s, but never fear - the look can be successfully and chicly resurrected. Try a simple, messy take on the classic French twist with this tutorial.
1. Divide your hair into two equal sections. Tie one out of the way with an elastic.
2. Hold the loose section out in one hand.
3. Starting mid-shaft, wrap the end around your thumb.
4. Roll the rest of the strand up until it's right up against your scalp.
5. Secure the roll against your head with a bobby pin at the bottom of the roll.
6. Repeat step 5 at the top of the roll.
7. Add any additional pins as needed until the roll feels secure against your head. Don't worry if it's messy - that's the best part!
8. Remove the elastic from the other section of your hair, then hold it out in one hand.
9. Like before, roll the end of section around your thumb.
10. Roll the section all the way up to your scalp, covering the first rolled section.
11. Pin the big roll against your head on top and bottom, then add any additional pins as needed to make the twist feel secure against your head.
Hairspray that baby (try Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine Super Spray) and...voilà!
